Two people were pulled unconscious from a burning home near Lawrenceville early Thursday, Gwinnett County fire officials said.
The fire broke before 4:30 a.m. at a single-story house on Lester Road.
Gwinnett fire Capt. Tommy Rutledge said a passerby reported the fire, but was unaware whether anyone was inside the home.
“The caller knocked at the door, but got no response,” Rutledge said in an e-mail.
When firefighters arrived less than five minutes later, they found the garage area of the wood frame and brick house engulfed in flames.
“Firefighters made immediate entry to conduct a search and battle the blaze,” Rutledge said.
He said an “older man and woman were found unresponsive by firefighters during the primary search and were removed from the burning home.”
Both were taken to Gwinnett Medical Center with advanced life support measures in progress.
Their identities and conditions were not immediately available.
Rutledge said the home, as well as a vehicle inside the garage, were a total loss. The cause of the fire has not been determined.
Lester Road near U.S. 29 was closed for several hours Thursday morning.
