Two more arrests have been made in the beating earlier this month of a man found stuffed in the trunk of his car during a traffic stop in Alabama.

Cherokee County sheriff's Lt. Jay Baker said Lyndon Baines Smith, 46, was beaten on March 4th in the Bridgemill subdivision near Canton.

Thursday, U.S. Marshals arrested Will Cortez Robinson, 24, and Robert Silva Jr., 22, both of Atlanta, Baker said. They are each charged with aggravated assault, aggravated battery and kidnapping with bodily injury, and are being held in the Fulton County Jail awaiting transfer to Cherokee County.

Investigators have not said what role the two men allegedly played in the incident.

Smith was located by a Cleburne County, Ala., deputy in the trunk of his car. The driver of the car, Melvin Floyd of Atlanta, was arrested and charged with aggravated battery, theft of motor vehicle, aggravated assault and kidnapping with bodily injury.

Floyd, 22, was released from the Cherokee Adult Detention Center on March 17 on $88,800 bond.

Baker said Floyd and Smith were visiting family members in Cherokee County when Floyd allegedly beat Smith and put him into the trunk.

Smith sustained numerous facial and rib fractures.
