Alpharetta City officials are warning of continuing backups as part of Canton Street downtown closes June 1 and stays shut down until early August. The closure is for installation of the final segment of a major water main by the Fulton County Department of Water Services. The work will bring a major transmission line to the northwest portion of the county.
The city said the closed portion will run from Mayfield Road to Church Street, and that heavy delays will result on both Canton Street and on Ga. 9, especially during peak commuting periods. Commuters are being urged to plan ahead and find ways to avoid the downtown area.
Officials are coordinating with residents along Canton Street to make sure they have access to their homes.
