Update 11:45 p.m.: The group of protesters has grown to about 400. They are now marching across the bridge that leads to Mar-a-Lago.

“What brings us out today is the statement he made,” said Charlemagne Metayer, a Haitian-born American citizen who has been in the United States since 1985.

Metayer, a father of four, is also a member of the Lake Park Planning Board. He took work off today to attend the protest.

“Some of us work two or three jobs to make a living, Metayer said. “We are hard working people. We deserve an apology from the president.”

Update 11:34 a.m. Haitian protest continues as Trump supporters gather across the street.

The site of the protest, on the southwest corner of Southern Boulevard and Flagler Drive, is directly across from the corner where President Trump’s most loyal fans station themselves to cheer the president’s motorcade.

Heavier the usual police presence is apparent this morning. However, the gathering is peaceful and there is no indication there will be trouble.

The protest is in response to harsh comments the president made about Haiti and African countries during a bipartisan meeting on immigration on Thursday.

Democratic Senator Dick Durbin, who attended the meeting, said the president used the word “shithole” to describe the countries. Several Republican Senators who attended the meeting said they did not recall whether Trump used the word, but confirmed he used harsh language.

The president's comments angered and disappointed the Haitian community - the largest immigrant community in Palm Beach County.

“The president does not understand us. We are not coming here to do any bad thing, we are coming here for a better life and to help our family in Haiti.” said Haitian American Pastor Jean Bruny of the First Haitian Church of God in West Palm Beach. “We pay taxes, we buy houses, we contribute to the United States.”

Update 9:15 a.m.: President Trump makes his last round of golf this weekend as his motorcade arrives at Trump International Golf Club.

Update 8 a.m.: President Trump took to Twitter this morning, posting a statement he made last night in Palm Beach related to border patrol.

The president expressed his opinion on reforming Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) and increasing security on U.S. borders.

Update 7:15 a.m.: The president is tentatively scheduled to leave Palm Beach at 4 p.m. on Monday.

Donald Trump's final day in Palm Beach County coincides with the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday, but the president has no public events on his schedule.
