Big changes are in the works for some Forsyth County drivers.

Weather permitting, crews will shift traffic from older to newly-built lanes on Ga. 20 where it bridges the Chattahoochee River at the Forsyth/Gwinnett county line.

The shift replacing a 1940s-era bridge with a new structure is set for this week between James Burgess Road in Forsyth County and Riverside Road in Gwinnett. A Georgia Department of Transportation engineer said with traffic utilizing the new pavement, crews can rebuilt the original lanes of the road and bridge.

The work at the county line is part of a larger project widening Ga. 20 to four lanes between Samples Road in Cumming and Peachtree Industrial Boulevard in Gwinnett, a roughly 7.5 mile stretch.
