Work to repair a sinkhole in Roswell is taking much longer than expected.

The sinkhole was first repaired in August, but the hole on Highway 9 resurfaced last week.

A release sent out by the city on Tuesday says that GDOT expects work repairing the hole and road to be completed by Nov. 14.

The cause of the sinkhole is an old, unmarked storm drain 20 feet below the road that had rusted and collapsed, the city said. Roswell’s transportation department is working with GDOT to ensure that the project is completed properly and safely.

The project will include boring a new pipeline under the road, as well as constructing associated structures on each side of the road.

Two lanes remain open on the four-lane road — one for northbound traffic and one for southbound — but GDOT is advising drivers to use alternate routes.
