It’s too bad most colleges don’t offer Sushi 101. That’s a class where most folks could eat their way to an A.

While your university or high school doesn’t likely offer classes on how to bake, how to make Indian food or how to make brunch for you and your partner, a Publix in north Fulton County does.

The Publix in Alpharetta at 4305 State Bridge Road is one of 10 Publix grocery stores across the country that is equipped for the Publix Aprons Cooking School. It is the only one of its kind in Georgia — the other nine are in Florida, where the grocery giant is based.

Publix says its classes are meant to "entertain, amuse and inspire" its customers. The classes cover several cuisines and are also centered around techniques and seasonal topics. Sometimes, celebrity chefs and local restaurateurs will lead the classes.

Customers can also schedule private, customized classes for special occasions from showers to birthdays to company team-building events.

Prices for the classes, which run Monday through Saturday, vary. Sushi 101, held on April 26 at 7 p.m., cost $50 per-person. An April 14 class on “Colorful Indian Cooking” costs $45 per person, and the “Lazy Day Brunch” class on April 15 is $90 per couple.

A full schedule and further descriptions of the classes can be found online at ww2.publix.com/aprons.
