Kroger’s new “Scan, Bag, Go” technology was recently unveiled for the first time in Georgia.

Customers of the Johns Creek location, at 10945 State Bridge Road, have been able to use a wireless handheld device or mobile app to scan and bag items while walking through the aisles since April 17. When shoppers are finished, they just need to settle the bill at checkout.

The Cincinnati-headquartered grocery chain is expected to roll out the new service to 400 stores this year. It may eventually replace checkout lines.

In 2022, Georgia Power projected its winter peak electricity demand would grow by about 400 megawatts by 2031. Since then, Georgia has experienced a boom of data centers, which require a large load of electricty to run, and Georgia Power's recent forecast shows peak demand growing by 20 times the 400-megawatt estimate from just three years ago.
