If you thought Chert Road was your little secret of cutting around Roswell Road traffic, sorry.

A portion of Chert Road has been permanently closed because of the Northwest Corridor Express Lanes, said Natalie Dale, spokeswoman for the Georgia Department of Transportation.

Heading east on Roswell Road, Chert was the first direct path to Gresham Road after passing the The Big Chicken, so this may affect the directions you give.

For the rest of forever, drivers heading south on Chert trying to get onto Roswell Road will turn right onto Halsey Drive, left onto Lassiter Drive and then left onto Hagood Circle to get to Roswell Road.

All that is about a third of a mile.

Roswell Road motorists heading to Gresham are instructed to do the opposite of all that.

And for those wondering what the heck "chert" is, the word is defined by Merriam-Webster as "a rock resembling flint and consisting essentially of a large amount of fibrous chalcedony with smaller amounts of cryptocrystalline quartz and amorphous silica."
