A homeowner in Sandy Springs was almost shot early Tuesday morning when he approached burglars in his garage on Colewood Way, police said.

No one was hurt, as the shot from a robber missed the victim and got lodged in an interior wall. But the pair of suspects who broke into the homeowner’s cars and garage did get away, police said.

Sandy Springs police recovered bullet fragments and lifted fingerprints from the cars.

"It just makes me sick," neighbor Mary Vaughan told Channel 2 Action News. "Maybe it will ease our anxiety because anxiety is not something we have in this neighborhood. Nothing happens."

Sandy Springs police said the incident occurred around 5 a.m. Tuesday morning. The suspects broke into the homeowner’s car, then used a button inside to get into the garage.

"These guys are getting more and more bold, and more desperate," Sgt. Sam Worsham told Channel 2.

Police said noise woke up the resident of the home, and that’s when he went into the garage to confront the burglars. Worsham is urging people to call 911 instead.

“We're asking people to lock your vehicle, even in your driveway or your garage,” Worsham told Channel 2. “Don't leave garage door openers where they can easily be found in your car."
