There’ll be I-75, I-285 exit closures in Cobb until Sunday

If you plan on heading into town this weekend before it becomes packed with nervous Falcons fans, you might need a detour.

Lanes and ramps at I-75 and I-285 will be closed as crews work on the Northwest Corridor Express Lanes. (Express lanes is jargon for toll lanes.)

Beware, the closings run Thursday starting at 10 p.m. until Friday at 5 a.m. and then the same time frame into Saturday.

The eastbound entrance lanes of I-285 and the northbound ramp of I-75 will be closed.

To detour: Drivers will take the I-75 southbound exit No. 20 to Cumberland Boulevard, turn left onto Cumberland and then left heading either north or east.

Also, exit 259A from I-75 south to I-285 east will be closed, so drivers will have to keep going south and exit onto Cumberland Boulevard’s exit 258 to head east.

State traffic officials told the AJC about a week ago that the express lane project is 66 percent complete. The $834 million project will add 30 miles of express toll lanes on I-75 and I-575 in Cobb and Cherokee counties.

The whole project should be done in 2018.
