Five people have been indicted for allegedly running a theft ring that stole credit cards from mail loaded onto planes at Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport.
The defendants allegedly used the credit cards to get cash advances throughout metro Atlanta and buy "high dollar electronics at a store," according to the U.S. Attorney's office for the Northern District of Georgia.
The U.S. Attorney's office said Quentin Pickett, 24, of Jonesboro and Cornelius Henderson, 23, of Riverdale were arraigned Tuesday on federal charges of wire fraud, wire fraud conspiracy and aggravated identity theft.
Inspector in charge David McGinnis in a written statement alleged that PIckett and others took advantage of the access given by their employer and used the access to steal U.S. mail.
"These defendants allegedly sought to exploit the airport's baggage loading processes and prey on unsuspecting citizens who depend on the mail to receive their new cards," said U.S. Attorney John Horn in a written statement.
From December 2015 until April 2017, the defendants allegedly stole credit cards from the baggage loading areas at Hartsfield-Jackson and a private mail sorting facility.
Henderson had access to baggage loading areas at the airport, according to the U.S. Attorney’s office.
Pickett and Henderson as well as Brandon Foster, 24, and LaSuhn Turner, 25 of Stockbridge; and Treyevon Herring, 22, of Forest Park were indicted May 23.
The U.S. Secret Service and U.S. Postal Inspection Service are also investigating the case.
