Q: What is going on with meteorologist Karen Minton on Channel 2? All these years she has been on Monday through Friday doing the weather. Now, 3-4 months ago she stopped doing Fridays. What’s her schedule?
—Melvyn Jamerson, Cumming
A: Minton, who will celebrate her 30th year with WSB-TV on Sept. 30, works Monday-Friday.
She arrives daily at 1:50 a.m. to prepare for the newscast that begins at 4:28 a.m. and ends at 7 a.m., she told Q&A on the News in an email.
Minton also does live cut-ins during “Good Morning America” from 7-9 a.m.
She recently stopped doing the weather on “Channel 2 Action News at Noon” on Fridays, and occasionally doesn’t work the noon broadcast on Mondays and Wednesdays to help cut her work schedule from 12 hours a day.
“I’m still working five days a week, (but) just getting a break from extremely long days now and then,” she wrote.

—Bob Markert, Roswell
A: Bristol Motor Speedway general manager Jerry Caldwell didn't confirm the cost to transform the speedway into a football field, the Associated Press reported Sept. 6.
Tennessee defeated Virginia Tech 45-24 on Sept. 10 as 156,990 fans set the NCAA attendance record.
Both teams were guaranteed at least $4 million each for playing there.
Bristol Motor Speedway also was the site for East Tennessee State’s 34-31 victory over Western Carolina on Sept. 17.
