Even Santa isn’t perfect.
If there was one present that was conspicuously absent from under your Christmas tree this year, the Austin Animal Center may be able to come to the rescue.
The shelter has more than 500 cats and dogs available every day, looking for their forever homes, and is at capacity for medium and large dogs. And post-Christmas is a great time to bring home a new four-legged family member, as people typically have extra downtime to spend letting their dog or cat adjust.
The Animal Center is closed Christmas Day, but adoption hours run daily from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. The center will close at 5 p.m. on New Year’s Eve and will be closed New Year’s Day. It is running a New Year’s adoption special for $18 from Saturday through Monday

Bruiser
Bruiser (A763550) is a 10 year old male. Bruiser loves treats and knows commands such as “sit” and “down”. He’s very house-trained and walks great on a leash.
Ellie
Ellie (A763984) is a 9-month-old female puppy. She loves to give kisses and cuddle up next to you and she is very treat-oriented, which makes her great for learning new tricks.
Glacier
Glacier (A761025) is a 2-year-old gentleman. He’s loves meeting new people and walks great on a leash and he’s house-trained. Everyone who meets Glacier falls in love. He’s the perfect mix of young-dog energy with great manners.
Homie
Homie (A744551) is a volunteer and staff favorite. He’s a 2-year-old male who loves car rides. He’s very house-trained and does great on a leash. Volunteers often take Homie on dates to give him a break from the shelter since he is one of our long-stay dogs. He’s well behaved in public and even enjoys being dressed up.
Jade
Jade (A761107) is an adorable 2-year-old female. She’s always wearing a goofy grin and she just loves meeting new people. She’s a sucker for belly rubs and politely takes her treats.
Max
Max (A763815) is a 4-year-old male miniature poodle mix. He is a little shy when he first meets new people but warms up as he gets to know you. He loves going on walks and playing with his toys.
Molly
Molly (A763158) is a 2 year old female. She is very sweet and affectionate and definitely loves treats. Her favorite things to do include rolling in the grass and giving kisses. She walks great on a leash and is house-trained.
Olivia
Olivia (A750040) is a 5-year old female. She is a sweet girl with an adorable snaggletooth. Olivia is very affectionate and loves to lean against you for pets. Overall she’s a low-energy girl who’d rather snuggle than fetch.
Ruby
Ruby (A598657) is an 8-year-old female. Her energy belies her age. She’s quick to give kisses and will do anything for a treat — Hot dogs are her favorite.
Scooby
Scooby (A565938) is an 8-year-old male. He’s an big bundle of dog in a teeny tiny body. He walks great on a leash and loves hanging out with his people.
Sidra
Sidra (A732618) is a 3-year-old female. She has tons of energy and gets the “zoomies” whenever she has a chance to run. Once she gets it out of her system, she’s a complete cuddle bug who loves belly rubs.
Titus
Titus (A645971) is a handsome 6-year-old male. He loves going on walks and is super friendly. He loves getting attention and full-body rubs. He has great manners, is house trained and takes treats very gently.
