For the first time in three weeks, metro Atlanta residents awoke this morning to sub-freezing temperatures.

The dusting of frost quickly vanished, however, with temperatures steadily rising. The high today could reach 60 degrees.

A weakening front is expected to move through the metro area Sunday night and bring scattered showers, possibly making Monday morning’s commute a bit soggy. The forecast is a 60 percent chance of rain in the morning, Brian Monahan of Channel 2 Action News said.

Metro Atlanta typically gets its final freeze during the last 10 days of March, so Sunday’s cold weather is nothing out of the ordinary, Monahan said.

The thermometer in Blairsville fell to 21 degrees. It dropped to 25 degrees in Peachtree City and 27 degrees in Canton.

After the clouds leave the metro area after lunchtime on Monday, temperatures are expected to rise to the upper 60s in the afternoon, Monahan said. The rest of the week looks even better, with temperatures in the mid- to upper 70s.
