A routine traffic stop in Gwinnett County took a turn for the worse and resulted in a police officer being dragged and two teenagers being arrested.
Officer Clifford Cavorsi, of Duluth police, pulled over a high school student for a minor violation — not wearing his seat belt, according to Channel 2 Action News.
Police dashcam video showed the teen taking off during the stop, with the officer’s arm stuck in the driver side window.
Cavorsi was dragged several feet before freeing himself, the news station said.
Minutes later, several police cars were chasing the 17 year old all over Duluth with speeds topping 100 miles per hour, while weaving in and out of traffic, police told Channel 2. At one point during the chase, the teen drove the wrong way into traffic.
Major Don Woodruff told Channel 2 officers tried to sideswipe the car and force the driver to lose control, but traffic was too heavy. Officers lost sight of the vehicle for a few minutes.
Channel 2 reported a quick-thinking officer asked himself, “Where would you go if you were trying to hide out?”
The officers then headed to Gwinnett Place Mall where they found the vehicle parked. The teen was located hiding in a store where his girlfriend worked. Both were arrested.
The teenager appeared in court Wednesday, while the officer he allegedly dragged spent the day at home, recovering from his wounds, according to Channel 2.
