Teen arrested in fatal shooting Monday night in Austell
Cobb County police have arrested a teenager in connection with a Monday night shooting that left an Austell woman dead and several children injured.
It appears that a neighborhood dispute escalated and shots were exchanged around 8:40 p.m. in the 7000 block of Oakhill Circle, Sgt. Dana Pierce with Cobb County police said.
One woman was shot to death and another woman was injured, Pierce said. Several children were injured, either shot or hit by debris. The wounded were transported to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
The woman killed was identified Tuesday as Deirdre Smith, 47.
Cobb police spokesman Mike Bowman said late Tuesday morning that investigators have arrested 17-year-old Khalil Kelly of Austell, and charged him with murder and aggravated assault. He is being held without bond in the Cobb County Adult Detention Center.
