Winning about 54.5 percent of the vote, Democrat and attorney Taylor Bennett beat Republican and former Brookhaven Mayor J. Max Davis in the Georgia House District 80 special election runoff Aug. 11.
Nearly 5,000 votes were cast in Tuesday’s balloting, according to unofficial results from the Georgia Secretary of State’s office, with Bennett receiving a little more than 2,700 votes. Bennett thanked his supporters on his Facebook page Tuesday night and said the victory was the result of “the entire community coming together for a better future.”
Bennett will represent a district that encompasses parts of Sandy Springs, most of Brookhaven and a portion of Chamblee. He replaces Mike Jacobs, who resigned to accept a judicial appointment.
