Johanna Chaplain has a new approach for a road that we get constant email detailing problems and offering solutions.
“There would be a great benefit to installing a dedicated left turn signal from southbound Briarcliff Road onto The By Way. There is already a left turn lane, but the traffic light does not include a left turn signal,” she wrote.
She said her family drives on Briarcliff and The By Way two to three times per day from Monday through Friday.
“The addition of a left turn signal from southbound Briarcliff onto The By Way would make a tremendous difference for us and the many other drivers who regularly make this turn,” she added.
Chaplain said typically, three to six cars are waiting to turn left, facing a long stream of cars traveling north. Drivers often have to make a really aggressive left turn in front of oncoming traffic, or turn left really fast once the light goes red.
“Neither of these options is safe, and if there was a left turn signal to accompany the left turn lane, that would allow the cars turning left onto The By Way to proceed quickly and safely.”
We sent her concerns to DeKalb County and will keep you updated.

Mark Anderson is looking to get a situation fixed before someone else gets hurt.
“I would like your help in getting a response to correct a road condition that caused me to crash on my bike and break two shoulder bones. I have notified the city of Atlanta and received no response,” he wrote.
Anderson said that on Euclid Avenue there are large bumps in the turn lane onto Austin Avenue.
"I was checking traffic behind me and hit the 3.5 inch bump and fell on my right shoulder. This occurred on July 6. Euclid Avenue is designated a bike route but this is a hazard to all cyclists," he added.
We sent the issue to the city and will let you know when it is fixed.
