Update-Lawrenceville Highway
Last week, we told you about John Kramer’s concern over the condition of Lawrenceville Highway.
“A portion of Lawrenceville Highway, (US 29), was flooded during the flood of 2009. Sometime thereafter a depression started forming in the right hand lane where the flood occurred between Arnold and Patterson roads,” he wrote.
He said the depression has since graduated into a sink hole.
We received a quick response back from the DOT.
“I have communicated with the GDOT area engineer for Gwinnett. After a review of this location in Lawrenceville (U.S. 29) between Arnold and Patterson roads, there is no evidence of any sink holes in this area. There are some patches and one of them isn’t as smooth as the others. As I am given more information in the event that repaving or milling would take place, I will make the public aware,” said DOT District 1 Communications Officer Katie Strickland.

Most of the time, our complaints come from commuters who vent frustration over the condition of busy urban roads. Every now and then, we do get a request from a reader who lives in a more rural area. This week, we got a request from a concerned resident about a dangerous intersection in the country.
The reader said the intersection of Ga. Highway 54 and Johnson Road is dangerous because of difficult sight lines. We sent the information to the DOT and will let you know what happens.

A reader is tired of dealing with a metal cover on Piedmont Avenue.
I have been driving over this cover for well over a year. Now it is starting to move and I would hate to see someone get stuck in the hole. The metal cover was placed over a hole in the road where some work was being done. The cover has been there a long time. Is there anything that can be done to remove the cover and fix the hole? It is located on Piedmont Avenue near the intersection of 10th Street right in front of Campagnol0 restaurant,” wrote Margaret Tinsley.
We sent the item to the city and will keep you updated.
