A reader is concerned over the state of roads on the west side of Atlanta.
“My wife and I live on the west side of Atlanta close to Howell Mill Road. Driving on this side of town often reminds me of past experiences on the roads in developing countries. The roads are abysmal, and certainly in need of a complete makeover,” the reader wrote.
“If you ever have the chance to ride passenger in this area, have your driver take you for a spin down Huff Road, off of Howell Mill Road, and head towards Marietta Boulevard. If you close your eyes for the five minute stretch of rocky ground and imagine yourself on a safari cruising across the vast Australian terrain, you can almost hear the sound of the kangaroos trotting along with you as you bounce up and down in your seat,” he added.
He said he and his wife love living on the west side and are very loyal to the city. They would love to see roads improved on their side of town in the near future, if nothing but to minimize the risk of car damage and potential accidents.

Fred Roberts’ patience is growing thin.
“The county’s contractor came to remove the plates from Hillbrook Way and pour some new asphalt last week. The patch doesn’t look much better than the plates did, and perhaps you can see the asphalt is already sinking down the center. What’s more, several smaller areas on the block were not addressed at all,” Roberts wrote.

As the city watched with horror as part of I-85 collapsed, a reader hopes some other work get done on the busy expressway as it is restored.
“(On) I-85 northbound, in the third lane from the right shoulder, just north of the North Druid Hills overpass, there is a patch of scalloped pavement that has rattled the teeth of millions of commuters for many years now. The rest of the pavement is fine. Is there any way that GDOT can fill that in ?” asked John Snipes.
