The Suwanee City Council agreed to renew an intergovernmental agreement with the Georgia Emergency Management Agency that establishes procedures and other ground rules for counties and cities to help one another during natural disasters. The Mutual Aid and Assistance Agreement was last executed in 2012 and needs renewal every four years.

The agreement gives local governments the authority to make arrangements for mutual aid assistance in emergencies and ensures timely reimbursement of costs incurred by local governments, which render such assistance. GEMA then has the authority to coordinate assistance between local governments during emergencies and to provide available resources where needed.
