Suwanee has agreed to a revised lease agreement with Norfolk Southern Railway Company for about 18,295 square feet of property along Main Street from Russell Street to a point in front of the Main Street Park basketball court. The area will accommodate the city’s Main Street plans to improve stormwater drainage, public parking, and a sidewalk. This lease also allows the city to store the caboose, etc. Parking is expected to increase from 40 to a proposed 56 spaces.

The rental rate will increase from $2,076 to $3,000 per year with yearly adjustments based on the U.S. consumer price index.

The city anticipates the Main Street drainage and parking lot improvement project will cost about $477,785 based on a quote from one of the city’s authorized design-build contractors. Actual quotes may vary.

Funding for the parking lot portion will come from the Main Street streetscaping funds and funding for the drainage portion will come from storm drainage SPLOST funds.
