A police robot removed and detonated a suspicious package Wednesday about two hours after authorities were called to a bank on Roswell Road in northeast Atlanta.

The package turned out to be guidebooks, according to Atlanta police spokeswoman Officer Kim Jones.

“PubMan Inc., the independent distributor of our Buckhead Guidebook, has reported to us the apparent poor judgment exercised by its delivery person in leaving a sealed, unmarked box of our guidebook’s in a member’s bank,” said Sam Massell, president of the Buckhead Coalition, publisher of the guidebook.

“We regret the inconvenience caused individuals and businesses in the area,” Massell said.

“We always respond to suspicious package calls,” Jones said, adding that the procedure hasn’t changed since the bombing during the Boston Marathon on Monday.

A man left the unmarked box inside the Wells Fargo branch in the 4400 block of Roswell Road near West Wieuca Road just after 11 a.m., police said. The man who dropped off the package did not speak to anyone, Jones said, and he was captured on security cameras.

Shortly after 1 p.m., a bomb squad robot emerged from inside the bank with the package.

Roswell Road reopened to traffic around 2 p.m.
