Suspects named in West End counterfeit bust

The Atlanta Police Department on Saturday identified six suspects arrested after the seizure of about $5 million worth of counterfeit merchandise Friday from the West End Market.

Merchandise included handbags, shoes and shirts purported to be name brands such as Nike, Ralph Lauren, Gucci and Louis Vuitton, authorities said. CDs and DVDs also were recovered.

All but one of the suspects were charged with having forged or counterfeited items for sale. They were identified as Aliou Dialo , Samba Ba , Bockarie Jalloh, Macky Traore and Asdo Chukwu. Mohamed Diallo was charged with reproduction of recorded material.

The fake merchandise was being sold at six different booths in the market on Ralph David Abernathy Boulevard, police said. Representatives from the name brand products and from the Recording Industry Association of America and the Motion Picture Association of America were at the scene. The authenticators worked with police to identify the counterfeit products.

The merchandise will be shipped to the different companies and destroyed.
