An Ellenwood man has been indicted on murder charges related to a Jan. 2018 shooting death, Gwinnett County police said.

Charles Bacote, 35, was first identified as a person of interest in the death of 42-year-old Joseph Lamont Love in Feb. 2018. Bacote has been in Gwinnett County Detention Center since Feb. 12, 2018 on an unrelated aggravated assault charge.

Love was shot multiple times inside an apartment on Rockbridge Court in Norcross on Jan. 14, 2018 and was dead by the time first responders arrived. A second man, who was not Bacote, was in the apartment at the time and fled through a window during the shooting, according to police.

Bacote was “well known” to the residents of Rockbridge Court Apartments, where Love lived and was killed, according to police. Multiple residents were reluctant to speak to police about Bacote in the immediate aftermath of Love’s death, according to a Feb. 2018 police press release.

Bacote is being held without bond.
