Police released surveillance footage Wednesday of the smash-and-grab burglary at a CVS pharmacy in southwest Atlanta.
Thieves used a stolen truck to ram through the front of the store in the 2200 block of Cascade Road around 6 a.m. Tuesday, Atlanta police said. The videos shows two men entering the store through the hole created by the vehicle, then jumping over the counter. It does not appear that they took anything before fleeing, Atlanta police spokesman Officer John Chafee said in the news release.
One suspect was arrested shortly after the crime. Sydarius Andrews, 18, was driving the stolen truck and was one of the men who entered the store, Chafee said. After a chase during which the vehicle was abandoned, police found Andrews hiding against a wall in the back of a residence near Beecher Road.
Andrews is in the Fulton County Jail facing numerous charges, including burglary, hijacking a motor vehicle and fleeing police, according to the sheriff’s office website.
The vehicle used in the robbery was stolen from the 1400 block of Boulevard Lorraine moments before the robbery, police said. The white Chevrolet truck was taken from the driveway of a residence, where it had been left running with the doors locked. The owner heard glass breaking as he exited his home, then saw a man backing his truck out of the driveway, according to authorities.
