The U.S. Supreme Court on Monday declined to hear a Georgia woman’s challenge of a federal law that does not prohibit workplace discrimination against employees because they are lesbian or gay.

Jameka Evans, who claimed she was fired from her job at Georgia Regional Hospital in Savannah because she’s a lesbian, was appealing a 2-1 ruling against her by the federal appeals court in Atlanta in March. “The public is on the right side of history, and it’s unfortunate that the Supreme Court has refused to join us,” said Evan’s lawyer, Greg Nevins of Lambda Legal, an LGBT civil rights group.
