The new superintendent in DeKalb County has unveiled her five-year plan for improving the school system.

Superintendent Cheryl Atkinson, hired last summer, is asking the public to comment on her "Excellence in Education Plan." It calls for 95 percent of 2017 graduates to be ready for college or careers as judged by test scores and progress on "career pathways." She also wants to ensure that 90 percent of schools implement and master Georgia's "common core" curriculum standards.
