Sunday will start off in the chilly 40s, but temperatures in the metro area will start to climb, sparking a warming trend into the 70s by Monday, according to forecasters.

“As we head through the day Sunday, a few clouds come in from the west, so partly cloudy, but our warming trend takes us close to 70 degrees,” said Channel 2 meteorologist Brad Nitz.

The National Weather Service had issued a freeze warning for all of metro Atlanta for Saturday morning. That warning was lifted for Sunday.

Sunday’s highs should be in the upper 60s after morning lows in the mid-40s, and temperatures will climb back into the low 70s Monday and Tuesday. Wednesday is expected to be in the mid 70s.

Saturday morning’s freezing temperatures arrived nearly three weeks earlier than normal, according to the Weather Service.

The average date for the city’s official first freeze of the season is Nov. 13, although Atlanta has recorded temperatures of 32 or below as early as October 11, in 1906.
