Sunday hours have been approved for roof work at Market Village in downtown Smyrna.

This 6-0 decision was made by the Smyrna City Council on March 16 with Councilman Lewis Wheaton absent.

Paul Castleman of Innovative Roofing Group requested the extension from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Sundays, March 22 to April 26.

The reason is due to the poor weather conditions of the past two months that have provided limited days to complete the re-roofing.

In a March 10 memo to the city, Castleman said he hopes the work can be completed in two weeks but maybe six to seven weeks.

This vote makes an exception to city code which does not allow construction on Sunday to protect surrounding residential properties from construction noise, according to Smyrna City Administrator Tammi Saddler Jones.

Innovative Roofing Group will notify the adjoining property owners before they begin any work on Sundays, Jones added.
