Heavy storms that moved across metro Atlanta Sunday night, sparking house fires and toppling trees, had mostly dissipated by early Monday, but forecasters are predicting more rain by week’s end.

A fire that broke out before 4:30 p.m. Sunday on Deville Circle near Suwanee was caused by lightning, according to Gwinnett County fire Capt. Tommy Rutledge.

Lightning also sparked a fire a few hours later that damaged a home on Farmwood Drive near Lawrenceville, Rutledge said. No injuries were reported in either blaze.

In northwest Atlanta, Moores Mill Road remained closed at daybreak Monday because of a large tree that fell across the road near Ridgemore Road Sunday night, bringing down utility lines and knocking out power to several dozen residents.

National Weather Service radar showed only a few scattered showers across the northern suburbs at daybreak Monday.

Channel 2 Action News meteorologist Karen Minton said there’s a 30 percent chance of lingering showers Monday, followed by clearing skies on Tuesday.

A slight chance of rain returns to Minton’s forecast for Wednesday.

The chance of rain increases to 40 percent Thursday and 50 percent Friday, Minton said.

Highs this week will be in the mid-80s, with lows in the upper 60s.
