If you’ve walked by a classroom at Kennesaw State University and seen a bunch of students with game controllers in their hands, they may not have been goofing off.

In fact, they could be working hard at one of the best game design programs in the world. (Or they could have been goofing off.)

In Princeton Review's ranking of the top 50 game design programs, KSU's Computer Game Design and Development specialization came in at No. 32.

To come up with the ranking, the Review sent out a 40-question survey to faculty and students while also factoring in curriculum data. Here's a sample of the survey questions.

Kennesaw State was one of the 20 public schools on the list. The analysis looked at 150 such game design programs in the world.

“It’s rewarding to receive this external validation for the great work that the faculty continue to do,” said Jon Preston, interim dean of the computing and software engineering college, in a news release.

The program, which started in 2008, allows students to take fancy-sounding courses like "Algorithm Analysis" and "Embedded Systems Analysis and Design."

Students can use a Sony PlayStation 4 laboratory and a body-motion capture system including face animation.

The program has also worked with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the Department of Health and Human Services to develop programs on smoking cessation, food-borne illnesses and HIV awareness.

The University of Southern California nabbed the No. 1 spot. Savannah College of Art and Design was the only other Georgia school to make the list at No. 24. See the full list here.
