Students aboard a school bus said they saw a man with a gun approach the bus while it was on its way to Maynard Jackson High School in east Atlanta on Monday morning, according to a school district spokesman.

The man didn’t enter the bus, said Atlanta Public Schools spokesman Stephen Alford. The man arrived in a car with the mother of three students who were on the bus, and those students left the bus by its back door.

The incident likely stems from a fight among students that occurred off-campus last week, Alford said.

Atlanta police and the school district were investigating the incident, he said.
