Streets cleared in Vinings near I-285

The soupy slush that was squishing underfoot at 7 a.m. near the intersection of I-285 at Paces Ferry Road was beginning to stiffen and crust over by 9 a.m.

Trees had a light glaze of ice which seemed to stop accumulating as the freezing rain turned to sleet.

Cars climbing the hill from Vinings village to I-285 began slipping until a Department of Transportation truck spreading salt and sand came along.

On the highway, most of the scattered traffic was large trucks — one of them following a scraper truck that cleared a lane heading south on I-285 toward the airport.
