A nonprofit organization that installs and maintains pianos in public areas around metro Atlanta has announced it will place its newest piano, “Oscar,” at 3 p.m. Sunday, July 8, at the pavilion in Rock Mill Park, Alpharetta.
Oscar will be unveiled in a ribbon-cutting ceremony and a brief performance at the park, 3100 Kimball Bridge Road, according to "Play Me Again Pianos." Afterwards, the piano will be available for the public to play.
Oscar was painted in black-and-white Zentangling style by artist Ben Hollingsworth, with a jazz theme and named for Hollingsworth’s favorite jazz musician, Oscar Peterson, the announcement said.
It is the second public piano in Alpharetta after "Flannery," in Cogburn Road Park. Additional pianos are planned for the Wills Park Equestrian Center and Webb Bridge Park. Information: http://www.playmeagainpianos.org/
“Street pianos and public pianos inspire people to connect with each other in ways that were once common, but seem increasingly rare,” said Jason Brett, co-founder of Play Me Again Pianos. “By adding our pianos to the landscape throughout the metropolitan area, we hope to nurture that connection into an evolution of Atlanta’s culture, community and the arts.”
