A former Florida parks director has been hired as the city of Stonecrest’s new parks and recreational director, officials announced in a news release.
Sean DePalma began his official duties Jan. 7.
DePalma was parks director in Fort Myers Beach for two years, managing a $5.3 million budget.
Stonecrest Mayor Jason Lary said DePalma was a good fit for the job, citing his 20 years of experience in parks and recreation.

“We needed a person with varied skills in parks administration. ... We felt he was the best fit overall for our needs for now and in the future,” Lary said in a statement.
DePalma received his master’s degree in parks and recreational management from Frostburg State University and went on to serve in several management positions in Florida. He also holds more than 30 professional certifications.
“I know that the evolution of the parks and recreation department is an opportunity for the city to increase the level of quality, as well as the diversity of services to our citizens,” DePalma said in a statement.
