Leaders in a DeKalb County community improvement district are asking the county to set up designated zones to boost economic development.
Designating a geographic area as an Opportunity Zone qualifies businesses in that area to earn a $3,500 job tax credit for each new job created during a five-year period.
The Stone Mountain CID has requested DeKalb designate several zones in a bid to spur new businesses to locate in the county and existing firms to expand.
