Georgia DOT will direct State Route 316 traffic tonight and tomorrow night off the State Route 20 ramps to begin flowing under State Route 20, eliminating SR 316 through traffic from being stopped by the signal at the top of the State Route 20 ramps. Tonight crews will shift State Route 316 eastbound traffic. Overnight Tuesday, crews will shift SR 316 westbound traffic. Traffic on 316 west seeking to go to SR 20, Collins Hill Road or Georgia Gwinnett College will need to exit SR 316 at State Route 20 and navigate the signals at the SR 20 ramps. To continue to Collins Hill Road and the college, motorists will cross over SR 20 and use the ramp to Collins Hill.
“Remember that we lowered 316 by 20 feet under the SR 20 Bridge. This change puts traffic in its final configuration. These are major changes to the current traffic patterns. Please slow down in the work zone especially as we all get used to this traffic shift,” explained Harold Mull, District Construction Engineer.
This $37.4 million construction project includes 2.23 miles of new roadway and two new bridges over SR 316. The project should be complete by May 31, 2016.
