A 65-year-old man was charged with cruelty to animals after his emaciated dog was taken to a pet crematory and employees called authorities, according to DeKalb County police.

James Thompson was arrested Monday morning. According to a warrant, he's accused of failing to feed the animal, causing it to die of starvation and dehydration.

The dog was "skin and bones" when it arrived at the crematory, and officers found other dogs emaciated in "deplorable" conditions in Thompson's care, the warrant said.

Further information wasn't immediately released.

A call to Thompson's house off Memorial Drive went unanswered Tuesday.

He remains in the county jail without bond.
