A proposal to change the land use plan for undeveloped property near Starr’s Mill in Fayette County will get further review following a recent public hearing.
The Board of Commissioners voted 5-0 to direct county staff to refine wording of an ordinance that would create a Historic Overlay District at the intersection of Ga. Hwy. 74 South and Ga. Hwy. 85 near Padgett Road. At issue is which types of small-scale commercial development will be permitted near the historic site.
Commissioner Steve Brown vowed to “passionately oppose” any rezoning that would allow a convenience store and gas station near the mill.
