If he wasn’t at work, Stanley Ivy could be found in the small barn outside his Barrow County home. And if he was in the barn, Ivy was usually with his friends or others he was trying to help.

But on Tuesday, that barn was where Ivy died after being killed by a family friend, according to police.

Sunday morning, family and friends will gather at the same spot to remember the man sometimes called a gentle giant. Big in stature, Ivy was known for his fierce loyalty and support for those he loved, friends said.

Many of those Ivy often helped don’t have transportation, so having the memorial at the barn will allow more people to come, a friend said Friday. It is what Ivy would have wanted, his wife and friends decided.

Ivy, 47, was stabbed to death by 31-year-old Whittney Kyle Stovall, according to the Barrow County Sheriff's Office. Stovall then grabbed a baseball bat and attacked another man before a neighbor turned the bat on him, friends said. Stovall also died, police said. According to his Facebook page, Tuesday was his birthday.

A memorial will be held at 11:45 a.m. Sunday for Ivy at the barn, located on Old Hog Mountain Road. He will then be cremated, a friend said Friday.

Funeral arrangements for Stovall were pending late Friday.
