Gwinnett commissioners awarded a construction contract Tuesday for a new bridge across the Alcovy River in Lawrenceville.
The bridge replacement will raise the roadway to improve sight distance and add a center turn lane to provide for left turns into neighborhoods adjacent to the bridge. Sidewalk, curb, gutter and drainage improvements are also included in the $2.8 million contract awarded to low-bidder Massana Construction. 2009 SPLOST funds will cover construction costs.
Old Fountain Road will be closed for approximately four months after clearing and utility relocations. The detour will take drivers from Prospect Road to Prospect Church Road to Old Peachtree Road and the reverse. Work is expected to be completed by mid-2016.
