As a result of the recent death of Fayette County Commissioner Pota Coston, the Fayette County Board of Elections will hold a special meeting at 5 p.m. Tuesday, July 14, at the Administrative Complex in Fayetteville to discuss the procedure for filling her vacant Post 5 seat. According to the current schedule, a special election would be held Sept. 15. At issue is whether it would be conducted using a district-only or at-large system, given the county’s ongoing legal challenge of court-ordered district voting. Coston was elected to the commission last year under district voting.
