Voters will go to the polls Jan. 9 in portions of Henry, Newton and Rockdale counties to choose a successor to state Sen. Rick Jeffares of Locust Grove, who announced his resignation Dec. 1 to focus on his campaign for lieutenant governor.
State Rep. Brian Strickland of McDonough, whose district lies entirely in Henry County, is running to fill that seat and so a special election for his House seat is also underway. Early voting will begin Dec. 18 in both of these races. Jeffares is in the middle of his fourth term in the Senate, while Strickland is in his third term.
Both are Republicans.
