Visitors to Atlanta now have more options when looking for a place to stay while in town.

Founded in 2014, San Francisco-based Sonder offers hotel-style living at affordable pricing, said Chris Alexander, general manager for the company in Atlanta. Sonder added Atlanta to its list of 41 cities in January.

Sonder operates two hotel-licensed properties to the city, according to a news release. Rates vary but the lowest rate listed on the company website Thursday night was $106 per night for a one-bedroom unit. The units are about 15% lower than most hotels, Alexander said.

On average, prices range from $125 to $135 for one- or two-bedroom units, said Alexander, who added rates fluctuate to compete with luxury-style hotels during special events.

Worldwide, Sonder manages 14,000 units and offers nightly, weekly and longterm stay.

Alexander said it was natural fit to come to Atlanta given the number of travelers that come to or through the city.

“It’s hard to be a business traveler and stay out of Atlanta for more than a year,” he said.

In January, the company launched multifloor penthouses at One Baltimore, a building tucked between Midtown and downtown near Emory University Hospital Midtown.

This week, Sonder opened 549 Peachtree, a luxury apartment complex with high ceilings also located near the hospital. That property includes a fitness center, coffee and juice bar and free parking. Combined the two properties have 36 units.

In August 2021, Sonder plans to add another 165 units inside The Grant Building, one of Atlanta’s first downtown skyscrapers. Sonder is also working on a 124-unit site in Midtown, but did not share more details.

“Atlanta’s missing a local feel for hospitality,” Alexander said. “You go downtown and see a lot of different hotels, but you don’t see many that bring the character out in Atlanta. It has a character that is beyond the South.”
