Crews will be taking soil samples at two different locations along Ga. 400 in Forsyth County starting this weekend as work ramps up toward widening of the freeway.

As a result, the left shoulder and median will be closed from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. nightly from Sunday to Friday at the Big Creek and Sawnee Creek bridges. The work will not affect the travel lanes of 400.

The soil samples are necessary as work gets underway to design, and then construct, a widening of the roadway, adding an additional lane in each direction from McFarland Road to Ga. 369, a 13.4-mile stretch.

Construction on the $47.4 million project is expected to begin later this year.
