In their first meeting after being freshly sworn in, the Snellville city council appointed attorney Tony Powell as interim city attorney replacing Chris Anulewicz and Josh Moore, both of Balch and Bingham in Atlanta. Anulewicz and Moore had resigned as representatives of the city two weeks ago.

Powell, of Webb, Tanner, Powell and Wilson of Lawrenceville, was fired by former mayor Kelly Kautz after a lengthy legal battle ultimately resulting in the Georgia Supreme Court ruling the mayor had the authority to do so.

In a closed door executive session following the regular council meeting, Mayor Tom Witts and city council members voted unanimously to terminate employment of city clerk Phyllis Richardson.

Richardson has filed a federal lawsuit alleging council members and the city manager have prevented her from performing her duties.
