Seniors are getting younger in Snellville. The Snellville city council approved a change Monday for to lower the city’s Senior Center membership age from 62 to 55, a move city officials say will increase participation at the facility.
According to Parks and Recreation Director Lisa Platt the department, which oversees the Senior Center, has had many requests to lower the current age limit for members to join.
The age of 62 was chosen to allow the center to receive certain grant monies. However, the obligation to follow those requirements has expired.
The council also voted to change the fee structure for groups for the first time since the center opened in 2006 making them more affordable for smaller groups. The new group membership rate is $6.50 per visit for under 25 members, $8.50 for groups of 26-50, $10.50 for groups of 51-100 and $12.50 for groups larger than 100.
