In a Citizens for a Better Snellville Facebook post Monday afternoon, Snellville mayor pro tem and current candidate for mayor Tom Witts offered a statement from the City Council concerning the Georgia Supreme Court’s decision noting that the court found deficiencies in the Snellville Charter allowing the mayor to make unilateral decisions without the consideration of the council.

Witts stated, “We have also seen how concentrated power in the hands of one elected official resulted in terminations of numerous city attorneys and attempted terminations of the city judge, the city solicitor, the city clerk, and the city manager. We will now turn to the citizens in the November election to elect a mayor and council that will unify the city and cure the defects in the charter to allow for the transparent representation for the people of Snellville.”
